About Power of Change Frederick
Power of Change Frederick is Frederick, Maryland's latest project to showcase that the 'whole is often greater than the sum of its parts.' Designed to use recycled parking meters as donation stations, contributions of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies are collectively gathered to support the many nonprofit organizations in the Frederick community. Together, those donations will have the opportunity to impact and drive real change. This project epitomized the power of change, both literally and figuratively, and is supported by Federated Charities. One meter will be permanently located inside the Federated Charities lobby and the second meter will be displayed downtown Frederick during community events. Additional meters will be placed throughout the City as the program expands.
Project Contributors
- Ashley Waters, Community Volunteer and Activist - After seeing old parking meters being put to good use in her hometown in Central Pennsylvania, Ashley knew Frederick needed this project. Thus, Power of Change Frederick began to form. Ashley is the founding momentum behind the project, pushing it forward using her skill set and strong passion for the Frederick community.
- Elin Ross, Executive Director, Federated Charities - A catalyst for impact and implementation in the community, Elin and Federated Charities were the perfect partners for this project. As a supporter of nonprofit organizations and new community projects, Elin has provided significant community resources, vision, and infrastructure.
- Leslie Ruby, Founder & Owner of PopUp Frederick, LLC - A creative, and someone who is driven by the power of art, collaboration and community building, Leslie adds an interesting perspective to this project. Each parking meter is also a public art piece thanks to Leslie's connections to local artists willing to share their talents.
